The pottery course

Pottery is a beautiful and centuries old craft and art form. It is a very practical form of art, for the basis of pottery is making something that you can use in daily life. During this course you will learn the basic techniques of pottery.

Step by step the basic techniques are taught and you will start to create bowl and cylinder shapes.

The following steps are discussed: kneading the clay (also called ''walking'' the clay), centering the clay on the turntable, pulling the clay upward, shaping and finishing the work.

Students start with a lump of clay and create their jar from start to finish during this course, including glazing.

The material

All required tools are available at Atelierbreda and are included in the price. There are 12 electric pottery tables and an oven to bake the clay.

Clay is also provided by Atelierbreda, 10 kilograms of clay is included in the price.

The price also includes baking of 6 small works, baking and glazing more or larger works is possible at an extra cost.

Where, when and for whom?

This course is taught at our atelier in Breda, and it is suitable for both experienced people and complete beginners. Because students will have personal assistance from the teacher, Iris or Patrick, beginners can master the basics and more experienced people can continue on their own level.
